  1. Description
The position of Traffic Control Laborer is a regular full-time, hourly role that is responsible for safely establishing, maintaining, and removing temporary traffic control zones in accordance with approved traffic control plans, state and local regulations, and company safety standards. The role of Traffic Control Laborer may also perform general construction labor duties when traffic control activities are not required. This position works out of the Statham, Georgia office and reports directly to the assigned Traffic Control Foreman.
This position works a schedule of 6:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday. This position will have regular  travel around the state of Georgia to perform field-based traffic control operations at various job sites. As a condition of employment, this position may be required to work extended hours including evenings, weekends and holidays as operational business needs require along with overnight travel to other job sites.
  1. Responsibilities
Traffic Control Operations:
  • Set up, maintain, and remove traffic control devices including cones, barrels, signs, barricades, arrow boards, and message boards.
  • Implement traffic control plans (TCPs) in accordance with project specifications.
  • Direct vehicles and pedestrians safely through and around work zones using approved flagging techniques.
  • Monitor work zones to ensure continued compliance and safety.
  • Adjust traffic control devices as job site conditions change.
  • Communicate effectively with crew members and the public regarding traffic flow and safety concerns.
Safety Compliance:
  • Follow all OSHA, MUTCD, DOT, state, and local traffic control regulations.
  • Participate in daily Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs) and tailboard meetings.
  • Wear required personal protective equipment (PPE) at all times.
  • Identify and report unsafe work conditions immediately.
  • Maintain awareness of live traffic hazards and construction risks.
Construction Labor Support:
  • Assist with trenching, backfilling, conduit placement, and site restoration.
  • Perform general job site cleanup and material handling.
  • Support linemen and equipment operators as directed.
  • Load and unload traffic control and construction materials.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
 
  1. Position Requirements
Formal Education & Certification:
  • Completion of a High School Diploma or attainment of a General Equivalency Diploma (G.E.D).
  • Valid Class C License (CDL) license with no restrictions and a clean driving record.
Knowledge & Experience:
  • Minimum of 1 - 2 years of traffic control experience.
  • Valid flagger certification (ATSSA or equivalent).
  • Experience supporting telecommunications utility construction projects and working around heavy equipment and live traffic preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of MUTCD standards and state/local traffic regulations.
  • Preferred certifications include both OSHA 10 and First Aid/CPR.
  • Fluency in both English and Spanish is preferred.
Qualifications & Characteristics:
  • Applicants must be able to wear personal protective equipment (“PPE”) when on job sites or other locations as directed.
  • Ability to lift, carry, and move materials up to 50 pounds without an accommodation.
  • Ability to stand, walk, and work in warehouse, yard and outdoors jobsites for up to a 12-hour shift.
  • Strong communication and organizational skills with a commitment to safety & quality.
Work Environment:
  • Ability to work outdoors with exposure to outdoor conditions, heights, confined spaces, and active equipment under varied weather conditions that include humidity & seasonal temperature changes.
  • Must be able and willing to travel out of town and stay overnight as required by project assignments; this is a condition of employment.
